There are also laptops that already have Blu-ray Disc drives instead of the usual DVD drives.

Blu-ray Disc drives are already rapidly becoming popular options on laptops and more customers are recognizing the advantage of Blu-ray Discs over the ordinary DVD discs. This Blu-ray technology allows more video and data storage on the discs, and allows for six times more in data storage facility than ordinary DVDs (and of course -- watch blu-ray movies!)

 Dual Core Processors(or even Quad core) has become a standard option on many laptops.  The short explanation here is that this gives you the essential power of double the processor for a very cheap price.  It is well worth the upgrade as most applications and operating systems today can make use of 2 processors and will need the additioanal speed.

Memory is an easy area to describe..  the more the better.  Most laptops should be configured with at least 1  Gigabyte of RAM.  Some default configurations will only include 512MG - in nearly all cases this needs to be upgraded to 1Gig.
